And again the German Circle had a wonderful evening with our Guest speaker Mr Green (on the right, seen here with Sim Cramer our Chairperson).
Mr Green spoke about Prinz Hermann von Pückler-Muskau.
The prince lived life to the full, travelling the length and breadth of Europe, meeting royalty, visiting parks as well as writing letters home to his wife Lucy.
Pückler-Muskau spent millions of Thalers to create a magnificent park at his home at Schloss Muskau. Today the castle and park are fully restored and welcomes visitors to stay.
In order to fund his mounting debts, extravagent lifestyle and ambitious and ruinously expensive landscaping projects he began to publish his letters and write beautifully illustrated books about the architecture and design of parks, which are still published to this day.
